BONUS: Go Organic!

If you haven't yet made the switch, it's ok, let's take it one step at a time!  This week let's commit to eating only ORGANIC MEAT.  Next week we can add dairy ;)

Why do we eat organic meat?

Let's discuss the biggies; antibiotics, hormones and GMO's.

1.  Antibiotics:  Are antibiotics necessary when animals get sick?  Yes sometimes, however, this is not how they are being used.  According to the FDA it is acceptable for animals to be given a steady dose of antibiotics upon birth as a prophylactic treatment.  This is due to the horrid and overcrowded conditions these animals are living in.  Not only is this extremely SAD, it also poses a risk to human safety.  It is possible that humans may become resistant to certain antibiotic treatment due to overexposure!

Certified Organic Meat will not contain any antibiotics.

2.  Hormones:  Virtually all non-organic beef are given FDA approved hormones (thanks FDA).  Cancer causing growth hormone is used to speed the growth of animals thus producing mass quantities of meat at a lower cost.  These hormones are believed to create reproductive and metabolic problems for us.  Guess our health isn't of concern?

Certified Organic Meat will not contain hormones.

3.  GMO's:  No GMO livestock is yet available for consumption (and it better stay that way), however that does NOT mean the animals are GMO free.  Animals are being fed GMO feed.  What does that tell you?  Yep, we are consuming GMO's in our livestock.  No thanks!

Certified Organic Meat will not contain GMO's.

When it comes to fish, the biggie we are looking for is WILD CAUGHT vs. FARM RAISED!

Please do not consume farm raised fish.  It is believed that farm raised fish will do more harm than good; even heart healthy salmon.  You are better off not consuming fish at all if you are buying farm raised.  Why, you ask?

1.  Farm raised fish are fed pellets containing chicken feces, gmo corn/soy and other toxins
2.  Farm raised fish are fed chemicals to give them a bright color (because that's what consumers want???)
2.  Farm raised fish are given higher doses of antibiotics then any other livestock due to overcrowded and harmful conditions.
3.  Farm raised fish contain less omega 3's due to non-wild diet.
4.  Farm raised fish probably contain sea lice (EW)

If that isn't enough to deter you, farm raised fish are linked to both neurological damage and cancer.  STAY AWAY!

$$ MONEY SAVING TIPS $$

Yes, the cost of WILD caught fish is much greater.  Yes, the cost of ORGANIC meat is greater as well.

-  check your local circular and stock up when meat is on SALE.
-  cut back portion size, eat a little less meat and in turn eat more veggies!
-  buy store brand organic meats; we shop at Wegman's and buy Wegman's organic meat.
-  buy in bulk and FREEZE -  family size packs are cheaper than buying individually wrapped portions
-  Again, FREEZE.  Make double batches of food and freeze leftovers so you have easy go-to meals ready and waiting for you when you don't feel like cooking!  Thus eliminating the costly 'let's order takeout' on Friday nights!

Hope this helps!  Email us here with any additional questions you may have!  We are always here to help!  Let us know if you're in!  This is such an important week!  Let's do this :)

I haven't been to the gym in years. I do something very similar at home. Most of it is functional exercises and constantly changing it up. Never get bored and it's so nice to see my kiddos watching me workout and building those good habits!

Also, you mentioned organics, gotta put a plug in for one of my favorite organic products. You guys should take a look at it. #FreshanaOrganic.

    Enjoy and thank you!
